A Certified Orthotist C.O.(c) is a member of the allied healthcare team who has specific education and training in the management and treatment of people who require assistive technology or assistive devices (orthoses). The C.O.(c) assesses, evaluates and designs solutions for people who require orthoses to restore mobility and/or to prevent or limit disability.
The C.O.(c) is credentialed by the Canadian Board for Certification of Prosthetists and Orthotists (CBCPO) and must adhere to strict policies regarding practice, ethics and continuing education. To become a C.O.(c), one must complete a two year post-graduate accredited program in Prosthetics and Orthotics, a two year residency and successfully challenge the certification examinations.
