There are many different diseases and injuries of the upper extremity that can be treated with orthoses (braces or splints).  Each person is assessed and treated according to the individual needs.  Some of the treatments are custom made and some are ready made, depending on the individual needs.  Upper extremity orthoses can be made from different materials such as leather or plastic, depending on the needs of the patient.  Here are a few treatments:

Thumb Post (also known as spica or splint) - may be used for arthritis, injuries, or DeQuervain's tenosynovitis

Wrist hand orthosis  (also known as WHO, splint or brace)-  may be used for carpal tunnel syndrome, wrist drop, arthritis
