The United Nations International Day of Persons with Disabilities is a day that “aims to promote a better understanding of disability issues with a focus on the rights of persons with disabilities and gains to be derived from the integration of persons with disabilities in every aspect of the political, social, economic and cultural life of their communities”*. The day is consistent with the UN message and commitment to social justice and equity for all people and helps to raise awareness of barriers to access to everyday life for persons with disabilities and to improve participation in all areas of mainstream society.
Today we celebrate the contributions and participation of persons with disabilities in our lives and our communities! We will work towards a better tomorrow for all.
